Plans

Your own private map. Set up and taught by a person.

You can learn TAK on your own with our free course. What you can't download is someone who sets up every phone with you, teaches your people, and stays on call. That's what a plan is.

Every plan starts with TAK on the phones you already have. Mesh radios come later, as an add-on. Every quote is written for your people and your area.

What you need

A phone you already own

TAK runs on the devices you have. Android gets the most out of it.

DeviceAppHow well it works
Android phoneATAKBest. Every tool, plugins and mesh radios.
iPhoneiTAKGood for map, chat and positions. Fewer tools.
Windows PCWinTAKA home base on a big screen.
Mesh tagnoneOptional. Shows a person, pet or vehicle with no phone and no cell service.
The add-on, after TAK

Learn TAK first. Then add the mesh.

TAK on your phones needs cell data or Wi-Fi. LoRa mesh radios talk straight to each other with no towers, and show up on the same map. They only pay off once your people already know the map, so the mesh is the last level of our training, never the first.

Waterproof tags

Rugged, sealed trackers for a pack, a kayak, a vehicle or a dog's collar. They put a marker on the map with no phone attached.

Everyday tags

Card-sized and keychain trackers for a backpack, a purse or a car. Light and inexpensive, for dry use.

Phone companions

A small radio that pairs with your phone over Bluetooth, so your phone keeps chatting and sharing its position when there's no cell service. Some double as a power bank.

Handhelds

Radios with their own screen and keyboard, to send and read messages with no phone at all.

Solar relays

Weatherproof nodes on a pole or a roof, running on sun and battery, that stretch the mesh across a neighborhood, a ranch or a site.

Base stations

A high-power radio at home or a portable one for the field, connecting the mesh to your TAK map so radios and phones see each other.

Starting kits

Most people don't want to design a radio system. They want the right one for their situation. These are our starting points, and each one is adjusted to your people and your area. Every kit comes set up for your private group and includes the training to use it.

Family Travel Kit

kit

A phone companion or tag for each person, a portable base for the room, cabin or campsite, and a travel-band check before you go. For ski trips, cruises, parks and road trips.

Home Base Kit

kit

A base station at home connecting the mesh to your map, a solar relay up high, and tags for the people, pets and vehicles you want to see. For storm season and outages.

Festival Kit

kit

Pocket radios for the group and a solar relay for camp, so you keep finding each other when the crowd takes down the cell network.

Ranch Kit

kit

Solar relays across the property, rugged tags for hands and trucks, and the first sensors where you need them: a gate, a water tank, a pump.

Patrol Kit

kit

Waterproof tags for every patroller or guard, high relays where height comes free, and train-the-trainer for your leads. For ski patrol, lifeguards, golf courses and security.

Your own kit

custom

Something else in mind? Tell us the job, the place and the people, and we'll put the kit together, sensors and custom builds included.

Custom sensors. Radios can carry more than positions: weather, gates, soil, water levels, anything with a switch. See custom builds.

We pick the radios for what you need, set every one up for your private group, and test them with you before they ship. Radios are quoted with your plan. If there's already a mesh community where you live, the site survey tells you, and we'll set your radios to join it or keep them private.

How it works

Four steps to get on the map

  1. Email us. Tell us how many people, what phones they use, and where you are.
  2. Site survey. We look up the public feeds where you live and work: weather, flood, traffic, fire, aircraft and local emergency alerts. You'll see what we found before anything is built.
  3. Setup call. We install the app together and each person gets their own login and certificate, sent privately. Your group is private from the first minute.
  4. Train. First session the same day: the map, finding each other, chat, markers and an alert. A short check-in a week later.
Questions

Before you write

Is TAK right for us?

If you need to stay connected no matter what, and you're willing to learn it a piece at a time, yes. TAK has a steep learning curve: even an hour a day, it takes weeks to get comfortable. If you want something you can figure out in five minutes, a simple family locator app will serve you better, and we'll tell you so. Is TAK for you?

Who can see where my family is?

Only the people in your group. Every customer gets a private group, so other families and teams on the server never see you, and you never see them. As the operator I can see your group's map so I can help when something isn't working, and I don't share it with anyone.

Does it work when we travel?

Yes. Anywhere you have cell data or Wi-Fi, your phones connect to the server and see each other, across town or across the country. Mesh tags add coverage where there's no service, within radio range of each other.

Is this the same TAK that public safety uses?

Yes. We run the official TAK Server, distributed by the U.S. government at tak.gov, and the same ATAK, iTAK and WinTAK apps. We're independent and not affiliated with the TAK Product Center.

What is the AI teammate?

A contact in your chat that runs on our own hardware, not a cloud service. Type it a short request in chat, like "where is Mom" or "mark the hotel", and it answers or puts it on your group's map. It works by text chat, not voice, though your phone keyboard's microphone can type for you. It can't change the server or anyone's phone, and it only acts when someone asks.

Will the map layers work where I live?

Some layers cover the whole country: weather alerts, earthquakes, satellite fire detection and live aircraft. Others are local, like traffic cameras, road closures, flood gauges and county alerts, and every state and county publishes them differently. Our own map shows Southern California because that's where we are. Yours gets the layers we can find and verify for your area, chosen for what you need the map for. Where a feed doesn't exist or isn't public, we'll tell you.

Do I need radios?

No. Phones with cell data are enough to start. Mesh tags are for when the cell network is down or out of reach: storms, back country, the water. We can add them later.

Where does it run? What if it goes down?

On our own servers, on bare metal on our own workbench, not in a data center or a public cloud, connected by symmetrical high-speed fiber with as much room going up as coming down. Every service is monitored and we test full restarts, but this is a small operation, not a guaranteed-uptime service. If your work is life-safety, tell me up front and we'll talk about what that needs.

Can we have every layer and plugin right away?

You can, but we don't recommend it. Turning everything on at once overwhelms new users and can crash the app, even on a good phone. We start you with the map, your people and chat, and add layers and plugins as you learn them. Why we go slow.

Do you come to us for training?

Training is live over video, with my phone mirrored on your screen so you can follow every tap, and you run the drills outdoors on your own phones. For a large group, ask about an in-person seminar.

Will you teach us to build our own TAK server?

No. We teach your people to use TAK: the map, chat, markers, the live layers and the mesh. The server, the feeds and the systems behind them are what we build and run for you, so you don't have to spend years learning them. If you need a dedicated server, that's part of an Organization plan, and we run it.

Can I cancel?

Any time. Your accounts run to the end of the period you've paid for, then switch off.
